A plum is the fruit of certain Prunus subg. Prunus species. Mature plum fruits may have a dusty-white waxy covering that makes them look glaucous. This is known as "wax bloom," and it is an epicuticular wax covering. Prunes are dried plums that have a black, wrinkled look.

Each plum contains 4 milligrams of calcium, 5 milligrams of magnesium, 11 milligrams of phosphorus and 104 milligrams of potassium, giving you 1 to 5 percent of your daily requirement for these nutrients.
