Dettol is a brand of cleaning products, disinfectant, and antiseptic that was established in 1932 and is manufactured by the British business Reckitt Benckiser. It is marketed as Sagrotan in Germany. Chloroxylenol (C8H9ClO), an aromatic chemical molecule, is the active component in Dettol that gives its antibacterial activity. Chloroxylenol accounts for 4.8 percent of the total admixture in Dettol, with the remainder made up of pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil, soap, and water.
